Star Wars Battlefront is one of those games that perfectly captures the scale and intensity of galactic warfare. Whether I’m storming the beaches of Kashyyyk, piloting an X-Wing in a chaotic space battle, or leading a charge as Darth Vader, the game delivers an authentic Star Wars experience that few others can match. Developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts, the Battlefront series has had its highs and lows, but it remains one of the most immersive Star Wars games to date.
The first Star Wars Battlefront (2015) was a reboot of the classic Battlefront series from the early 2000s, bringing modern visuals, sound design, and large-scale battles to the franchise. The game’s biggest strength was its ability to make me feel like I was inside a Star Wars movie. The sound effects, voice lines, and environments were all meticulously crafted to match the films. However, despite its stunning visuals and fun multiplayer, the game lacked depth at launch. The absence of a single-player campaign and limited content made it feel somewhat incomplete. While the DLC expansions added more maps and modes, many players, including myself, wished for a richer experience right from the start.

Then came Star Wars Battlefront II (2017), which initially had a rough launch due to its loot box progression system, sparking one of the biggest controversies in gaming history. The backlash forced EA and DICE to overhaul the game’s entire economy, removing pay-to-win mechanics and making progression fairer. After months of updates and improvements, Battlefront II evolved into one of the best multiplayer Star Wars experiences ever made.
One of the standout features of Battlefront II is its single-player campaign. Playing as Iden Versio, an elite Imperial special forces commander, offered a unique look at the Star Wars universe from the Empire’s perspective. The story follows her journey in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi, as she begins questioning the Empire’s leadership. While the campaign wasn’t groundbreaking in terms of length or complexity, it provided a fresh perspective and added some much-needed narrative content.
Multiplayer is where Battlefront II truly shines. The game features a variety of modes, including Galactic Assault, where large-scale battles take place across multiple iconic planets. There’s also Starfighter Assault, which lets players engage in epic dogfights across space, piloting legendary ships like the Millennium Falcon, TIE Fighters, and X-Wings. Heroes vs. Villains is another fan-favorite mode that allows players to take control of iconic Star Wars characters like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, and Yoda, battling in intense 4v4 combat.
One of the biggest improvements in Battlefront II was its post-launch support. DICE kept adding free content updates, introducing Clone Wars-era maps, new heroes like General Grievous and Anakin Skywalker, and expansions that covered The Rise of Skywalker. The Scarif Update, released in 2020, was the final major content drop, bringing back the beloved tropical battlefields from Rogue One.

Despite its troubled launch, Battlefront II made a remarkable comeback. By the time support ended, the game had transformed into a content-rich experience that fully delivered on the promise of massive Star Wars battles. Even today, it has an active player base, proving that there’s still demand for large-scale Star Wars multiplayer action. As for the future, fans have been hoping for Star Wars Battlefront III, but as of now, EA has not confirmed any plans for a sequel. However, with the growing success of other Star Wars games like Jedi: Survivor and the upcoming open-world Star Wars Outlaws, there’s hope that the Battlefront series might return.
For now, Star Wars Battlefront II remains the definitive Star Wars battle simulator, offering intense multiplayer combat, stunning visuals, and the chance to step into the boots of legendary heroes and villains. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the series or just discovering it, it’s a game that still delivers some of the best Star Wars moments in gaming.
